USES

Chilkat weaving is used to make several different types of garments. Most well know is the chilkat blanket, featured in the picture to the right. This blanket was a ceremonial robe worn by the chief, dancers, or men of status at ceremonies.

Chilkat weaving can also be used to create parts of headdresses, bags, and aprons.

The chilkat blanket, and other accessories where important parts of a chief's ceremonial garb, as it was representative of his family heritage, as portrayed on the blanket in the designs. The blanket displayed not only the owners family heritage, but the detail and quality of the piece indicated their rank and wealth as well.
